Playback & devices
Browser playback, compatible clients, and hardware conversion.
Watch in the browser
| Path | When it runs |
|---|---|
| Direct play | The browser supports the original container, video, and audio. |
| Remux | Streams can be copied into a compatible container. |
| Transcode | A codec or chosen quality requires conversion. |
Choose quality and subtitles in the player. Resume, theater mode, fullscreen, and picture-in-picture are available. Series include episode order and autoplay controls.
Connect a Jellyfin app
Enable the optional Jellyfin-compatible API in Manage Server → Connections → Metadata → Apps like Infuse. Add Lumina’s server-root address as a Jellyfin connection in your client and sign in with your Lumina member credentials. With two-step verification enabled, use an app password from Settings → Connected apps.
Follow the client compatibility and connection guide for Infuse, Swiftfin, Roku and Android TV. Lumina does not serve jellyfin-web or support every Jellyfin client workflow.
Enable Intel QSV / VAAPI
On a supported Linux Intel host, download the matching override and expose the render device:
curl -fsSLO https://github.com/shiftedx/lumina/releases/download/v0.4.0/docker-compose.qsv.yml
LUMINA_RENDER_GID=$(stat -c '%g' /dev/dri/renderD128) docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose.qsv.yml up -d --no-buildConfirm acceleration in playback diagnostics. The image includes the media tools; the host still needs a working GPU driver and render device. See hardware requirements.
Listen across sessions
Music queues, cursor, repeat, and shuffle restore across browsers without starting audio. Concurrent edits offer Use server or Keep this device. Unsupported source audio can use a PCM compatibility conversion.
Protected online streams
DRM is unsupported. If a provider requires protected playback, choose Watch on YouTube or Watch on Twitch. Retrying or changing conversion settings cannot add DRM support.
